Visas and Residency section updated with further information on the new residency system

      Visas and residency

Check the entry requirements for Austria.

      Residency

If you are resident in Austria before the transition period ends on 31 December 2020 you will be able to stay. UK nationals will be able to continue to move to Austria during the transition period.

You must register with the Austrian authorities if you want to stay in Austria. You need to:

      • get a residence registration form (Meldezettel) within 3 days of moving into your new home
      • get a registration certificate (Anmeldebescheinigung) within 4 months of arriving in Austria

Read the Austrian government’s guidance on residence registration and guidance on registration certificates, including details of financial requirements for stays of more than 3 months.

To confirm your rights under the Withdrawal Agreement, you will need to apply for a new residency document. The Austrian authorities have published draft legislation, including details of the proposed registration system.

We will update these pages with details of the new system as soon as more information is available.

If you arrive in Austria after 31 December 2020, different immigration requirements will apply. Read the Austrian government’s guidance on residency permits for third country nationals.
