After 2020, EU member states might well introduce an application system similar to the Settled and Pre-Settled status system that the UK is implementing.
However, if you are required by the EU country you live in to apply for a residency document or status, you will have until at least June 2021 (six months) to make that application.
This may be free, or roughly the cost of similar documents like passports, but certain translated and legally certified documents may also be required – along with proof of identity, criminality and security checks?
